Our Founder’s Personal Journey
Hello! My name is Subha Ganesh and I am the founder and CEO of NoshyCircle. Great food has always played a significant role in my life. I grew up in the small town of Palakkad in Kerala, India and I was lucky enough to be born into a family with strong values around business, hospitality and traditional cuisine.
Throughout the generations, many of my family members owned traditional family run hotels and authentic restaurants – the passion for food and business certainly made its way down the grapevine to me. I come from the Brahmin community who Historically, were predominantly priests, teachers or advisors to the kings. In the 1940’s, when the dynasty was collapsing, lots of Brahmans went into cooking and the world of hospitality.
My grandfather on my father’s side of the family, founded his restaurant in 1946 before India’s freedom, in a town called Dalmiapuram, Tiruchirappalli. On my mother’s side, my grandfather opened his restaurant in 1967 on the Annamalai University campus, it was active until 2015! Although he went on to retire, my second uncle is now running the restaurant. My older uncle moved out of the town to Chennai and runs his own restaurant called Sasthalaya Caterers.
The passion for business and work-ethic certainly rubbed off on me. I moved to Chennai in 1999 for my graduation and some years later moved to Europe and have been in London now for the past 16 years where I worked my way up the career ladder to senior roles within various companies.
Being a city living, full-time working mum – providing tasty and nutritious food for my kids is the most challenging part of my day. I found myself compromising spending quality time with my family because I would be cooking in the kitchen all evening. I was certainly experiencing ‘mum guilt’ and found there just wasn’t enough time in the day. I ended up ordering takeaways from restaurants often, however I still felt guilty as this wasn’t healthy (or cost effective!)
With the current Covid-19 pandemic, balancing work with family time and homeschooling has become even more of a struggle. I want to provide my family with healthy food but not have to compromise on time or feel guilty for ordering takeaway food that lacks nutritional value.
At heart, this is my inspiration for NoshyCircle, even more so at a time where food, health and maintaining livelihoods is at the top of everyone’s priorities.
